Stuff Weekly! Plays RPGs
2020 is a garbage year. There’s no way around it. Some years are bad, sure, but this one decided to make a ding dang name for itself. That said, since the news stopped being funny, Stuff Weekly! has pivoted, for a while, to try on some new things. Among these themes has been two separate instances of tabletop RPGs.
The first instance was a three part DnD adventure where the hosts explored a creepy tower in search of a treasure left by a famed hero. These episodes are absolutely my favorite ones of this year and might actually be my favorite episodes of the entire history of the show. The game was fun to play, and the episodes are some of the most polished ones yet. They listen more like a radio drama than a typical podcast. Begin listening with the below list:
Secondly, and more recently, we went back to the RPG well but this time nothing was planned in advance and everything was made up on the spot. This game is entitled You Awaken in a Strange Place, and was created by Jacob Andrews of Drawfee fame. In this series of episodes, we explore a dystopian future of the Mushroom Kingdom. The era of Peach and the Mario brothers has long ended and the world has fallen into gang wars and sports gambling. Our heroes push to locate the legendary super crown which grants the wearer the right to rule and maybe, just maybe, they can return the land to the peace it once (mostly) enjoyed. So far, that’s it! It is very likely we will do this again, and we may even return to one of the universes we have created here. We hope you enjoy these episodes, and thank you for listening.
